Open arms or locked doors?

Omni-Reform often has very successful outcomes when working with ex-clan members of the Rubi-Kan community. Why then are these citizens often turned away from employment in Omni organisations?

We should never forget that a reformee is someone who has fled from their familiar way of life to the unknown, to them, workings of the Corporation. Leaving behind the unstructured to join the efficient and scheduled way of life of a working Omni society. These reformees look to you, the Omni community to help them become integrated socially and professionally to enable them to regain their way of being.

According to Professor Cook, experiences of regression can occur for some individuals where even after a successful reform, the new way of living can be quite traumatic.

"You have to remember that before the reform program starts on an individual, quite often they are involved in defending their notum fields and protecting their assets. Now for some individuals, it is irrelevant who they are defending against – anyone who is trying to attack their property is an enemy. But for others, the defence is much more focussed on sides. This appears to be a strong deciding factor to some communities the reformee tries to join. Organisations have been known to ignore the positives that can come from a reform process and only concentrate on the negative that this person was once an enemy. With this way of thinking we will never progress further within our society."

Rubi-Ka Times managed to speak to one individual who has been affected directly by this.. his name is Mark *name not the individuals real name to protect his identity.

"Some days can really be very distressing. I have struggled since I came to Rubi-Ka to find a place I could really call home. On the shuttle when I came over, I was sat with a group of people who had strong ties to a certain clan organisation. It was hard, you know. Coming to a planet where I knew noone.. why shouldn't I have taken them up on their offer to join them? Well, I know now that perhaps I shouldn't have kept switching sides .. but I have felt like I was rubber banding between the right place for me. I want to feel accepted. So far life has not given me a good hand. I am booked onto a new reform program .. it involves travelling to another area within Rubi-Ka. I have also requested an appointment with the Clinique Plastique. It is time for a drastic change. Even if I do have to learn a slightly different dialect to pass off as a local."

It is clear that the backgrounds of some individuals may cause concern among recruiting Omni organisations. Certainly, some individuals go through very complex reform programs, some multiple times and still do not remain loyal to the Corporation. However, if more support could be given from the community, perhaps the retention rate of reformed citizens would increase. There could be more relaxed procedures in some organisations who are not focussed on defence and attack of notum fields, especially those who focus on social interaction. It certainly would be interesting to hear from organisations on their stance towards recruiting reformed members of the community.
