Information about the Backgroundstory Pager

1.1. Introduction

The Backgroundstory Pager is designed to let you easily set up a website containing Roleplaying Information about your character(s), so you can share your background and stories with others around the world.
Because the first step for successful roleplaying is to know who your character is, what impressions of the world he has and what important experiences might mark his life. How does he react on situations, who and what does he like, hates... give him a name, a place where he was born, a vision and a goal for life. Make him unique!

1.2. What the Backgroundstory Pager is not for

There are a few things you should keep in mind when writing down a backgroundstory that is available on a public base, as it is on this site.
First you must not use your backgroundstory to harass or insult other players or their characters by writing down undesirables sentences, comments, words, nor are you allowed to use the picture-upload function to upload pictures that have nothing to do with your backgroundstory.
Keep in mind that all stories are available to everyone, so everyone can read your background.
We reserve the right for deleting or editing profiles that outrage the terms of good savor (be it with harassing, p0rn, insulting or something like that), though in all cases the creater of the profile will be noticed in such a case.
If you find a page that breach such a rule, please report it.

AO-Universe is not responsible for the content in the submitted backgroundstories! The author of each profile is responsible for his own content and should be contacted for questions regarding the content!

2.1. Using the Backgroundstory Pager

The Backgroundstory Pager allows you to easily add and edit a profile using a simple formular to fill out.
When you click on 'New Profile' a formular will show up. All you need to do is fill out the fields and then save it.

Once you saved your profile you will be given a link where you can view your profile, or you go on the 'List Profiles'-site and look on the list for your profile.

2.2. What do I enter in the fields?

Most of the fields should be self-explanatory. On a few fields you can add additional weblinks, like to the homepage of your guild, if you got one.
The four big fields Background, Personality, Likes & Dislikes may include additional BB-Code to design your text more.
You can also add a picture to your profile. If you already have a picture uploaded somewhere, simply insert the URL in the specific field. If you wish to upload a picture of your character, search for it on your computer and enter the path in the other field. Once you hit 'Save' it will be uploaded and saved to your profile. Please not that only JPG/JPEG images are allowed and they may not be larger then 40kb of filesize.

2.3. How to Edit my Profile?

To edit your profile, you need to click on 'My Profiles' to see a list of all your character backgroundstories. To edit one, simply click on the link and you will see the same formular as when you create a new profile where you can simply edit the fields you wish to change and save afterwards again.

2.4. What are the different pager-styles for?

Enjoyment! :)
They might help you to add a bit more 'atmosphere' to your profile when others read it. Please note that a few designs use Internet Explorer specific design-regulations and might not show properly on other browsers.

2.5. I don't like the standart pager-styles, i want my own!

With the new version of the Backgroundstory-Pager, custom page-styles are supported. You will need experience in HTML to create the layout of the page.
Custom Styles can be locked for other people, so they will be only available for your own character profiles. If you have created your own layout, please send it as mail to Khuri, stating if you wish this profile to be locked to your user-account and/or if you wish other people to see the code of your layout in the examples page.

2.6. View mine and other profiles

On each profile-page you have a field on bottom where you can easily copy from and add it to any common forum that uses BB-commands, so go and put it everywhere in your signatures ;)
If you want to see other profiles, you just go to the 'List Profiles'-page to find a list of all profiles in the database. You can also go and use different filter options to find profiles of people in your guild, on your dimension or maybe just someone who has the same Name as you? :)
