I've just checked this, it's correct. Shift+V to open the vehicle window.
Ctrl+V apparently claims rewards...

There was apparently a point where Ctrl appears to have been the controller for Meching. It looks like it was changed sometime between 2012 and 2015.

All Ctrl command have been corrected in guide to reflect Shift as the correct command. Ctrl-V has been updated in the guide to its current correct Shift-V

My guess is that at one point they realized that CTRL-V is the default for pasting text (CTRL-C/CTRL-V)
