Chat box help for a nub

Hi,
I downloaded the ?óÔé¼?ôTHE SMALL CLIENT?óÔé¼?Ø and I now have a level 10 martial artists. My problem is that I only see attack chat in the chat box. I can?óÔé¼Ôäót chat or read anything in the vicinity or from my group members, ECT. I have friends playing with me and we use vent. They tell me that they can?óÔé¼Ôäót send me a pm in game as I don?óÔé¼Ôäót show as being on line, but I'm in the group? I have tried creating a new chat box but that did not work. I guess I have turned something on or off regarding chat but I can?óÔé¼Ôäót find out what. Any suggestions how to fix this would be appreciated. thx

Hmmm, even if you'd switched off all the chat channels, that wouldn't stop you from showing up ingame...

Which server are you on?

The only thing I can think of is to meet you & go thru it all.

You'd have to give me your vent address obviously.

Hiya

Did you reroll the character? This could stop you from showing up in their friends list.. and if they are trying to click your name in their friends list and send it to the "old" you -- the character IDs wont match up and therefore you will appear to them as offline and your messages wont get through.

Ask them to do the following:

/cc rembuddy YOURCHARNAME
Then they log out properly
Then they log back in and then ask them to add you again using
/cc addbuddy YOURNAME

Also, try opening your chat config :

SHIFT C

You can then very quickly see which channels are assigned to your window.

I?óÔé¼Ôäóm on the atlantan 1, I think its called, and this is the first char I have made. All the chat channels have a check next to them except the vicinity loot.

My chars name is Kuujo

When did you roll the character?

& why do they see you as not online? What are they using to check?

iirc i started 3 days ago and my friends are using /tell kuujo.
when i use /list, it does show me in the zone

Ok, the normal problem I have with /tell is my overly good grammar...

Make sure they're typing /tell Kuujo <messate> & not /tell Kuujo, <message> I can't tell you the amount of times I've fallen for that one...!

Ok, current update on this problem...

It's definately a problem...!
I've done everything I can think of, & the GM I eventualy called couldn't add anything other than trying the AORepair utility.
Which didn't work either...

It's not that they're swithced off or anything, he simply doesn't have any access to half the chat channels!

He's now trying a complete uninstall/install (but with the large client this time), if anyone has had any similar problems, let us know!

aye, I've uninstalled the small client and downloaded the full client > installed the full client > patched, and I still have the problem. I sent a detailed email to funcom today :roll: maybe they will have a fix.

thx again for helping with this snakebite.

I will update after funcom replys...

I assume that fresh install didnt then have a copied prefs folder put into it?

No problem, remember to do what I suggested, install it on your desktop PC, see if you have the same problem there... & if not, disk it over.

As for the techsupport option, remember to add your complete system specifications.


As a side thought (& I can't see why this would be a problem (but anything is worth a try)), switch off all your firewalls & try booting the game then...





OOOH...! Just had a REALY good idea!

Get one of your mates round & get him to log onto his account on your laptop, see if he has the same problem on your machine & then go to his house & log on your account on his machine, see what happens, this will show whether it's your instalation or your machine that's having the problem...

thanks for the new ideas. it is the same on both my comps.

Im waiting for techs second email. the first said:

"Greetings,

Please try subscribing to the various channels by right clicking on the
chat window. If this continues, please let us know and it may be a
database error. Do any of our other characters"


As you know, I don?óÔé¼Ôäót have "those" channels in my list of options to subscribe to and it is the same on all my chars and accounts.
