Need Internet Explorer help...

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

Need Internet Explorer help...

Post by Snakebite » Sat Sep 06, 2008 1:44 am

I know for certain there's a way to switch off Internet Explorer, to disable it so it won't work, but I can't remember how to do it.

I'm running Firefox at the moment but my G/F insists on using Explorer, I think she thinks because it's something I've installed, that it's harder to use. & I'm getting all sorts of crap on my computer (like unwanted cookies & spyware) because of it.

Help guys...

I'm running Windows XP, Zone alarm & avast anti-virus.
Also using Spybot...

Since SP1 (i think) you can simply uninstall it through windows.
Not sure how to get there on english windows, although you need to go to the software tab (preferences -> system preferences -> software ?)
There you got the tab on the left saying "windows components", and in there you'll find the "Internet Explorer" having it's own little checkbox. Uncheck, hit continue and uninstall it that way.

that only removes the shortcuts from the start menu. You cannot uninstall IE as it is built into Windows XP. You can however use "Set Program Access & Defaults" and choose your default web browser etc there

Nope, there's definitely a way to actually disable it, I know, I've done it before but I just can't find the damn thing...

You didn't happen to use something like TweakXP or any other 3rd party software... I'm sure MS would be the last company to allow u to disable it.... not something I've ever come across anyway

No problem any more...

Power went out last night & my UPS failed & apparently it trashed part of my windows installation (I'm writing this in safe mode lol), anyway, since 'Windows Repair' failed to leave me with a bootable computer, it's format time, I'm currently pulling everything I want to keep & putting it on storage (gotta love 8Gig phone memory cards  ).

So, hopefully you will see me soon...

Now no getting excited cos there's no Moderator, I'll be back REAL quick!!!
