Buffbot

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

Buffbot

Post by battosixxx » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:48 pm

I am curious on some feedback from others concerning a buffbot. There used to be one for tower wars in OA, I want to know if technically it is illegal to have and will get people banned if they use a buffing bot. essentially the chat bots that every org has is the same concept but for chatting, it just helps with every day tasks. The way it works is simple(for those who dont know what a buffbot is) you send it a tell and it gives you a buff. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me I will gladly answer them, flamming will get no responses.

My ultimate question is if I technically had a buffbot developed and was to release it would there be any risks involved as in getting banned? and what problems would the community face?

As I understand the concept, yes, FC would come down on you like a tonne of rectangular building objects...

Whilst various 3rd party tools are ignored by FC, any means of controling or remote controling of a character is very much frowned on.

And even if on a bizzare offchance FC allowed you to make these buffbot characters for static use, they would almost certainly HATE the ability to do this being widespread to general players...
There is just too many ways this idea could be abused.

that was my original concern about the whole widespread usage, so i would add some sort of a white list, so the only way you would be able to use the bot is you would have to be on the white list and know the commands. I built it originaly for my org but then i quit ao for a while and deciding what to do with my code, i don't want the time i put into goto waste, yet i don't want to be banned or cause to much turmoil in the community lol

They have banned people for it before, so that's really up to you ;)

You could always contact FC and offer to give them the code and suggest they instigate a buffbot in main cities themselves...

ironically i emailed the exploit team and asked them about it, the reply they sent me was that a buff-bot is illegal essentially, and that any found would be shutdown. as for sending them my codes that would be preposterous :P that my hard work lol id rather have it released to the community illegally then let them have it :). After all it wont be my main accs that get banned, on top of them having to find out what char is using the bot. The way i set it up is very complex for the bot owner yet simple for org users. I made a white -list along with customizable commands, so if you are not on the list you dont get buffed, and the commands can be changed as the bot owner wants, for example one day it could be "gsf plz" and the next "give me gsf" whatever the bot owner wants. so it would be VERY hard for them to find any characters using this bot, I wont say exactly how i do it but im still debating on releasing it or not. Also im not trying to hurt the game at all, i myself love AO and imo i think this type of bot would be a nice addition to any org, I just want more players reviews on this subject and to see the posatives and negatives that it would have if i give it out freely.

Well the Exploits Team are the people to know and listen to.

The option of sending it to FC to instigate was the only real way to see it ingame with any regularity. And regularity is the only way this would be useful to the player base.

Unfortunately, since we at AOU have very good relations with FC, I'm going to have to refuse to allow this to go any further on our Forums.

I am closing this Thread and requesting politely that no other Threads are started or Posts made on this subject.
We do not support any activity that FC considers in your own words to be 'ilegal'

Maybe you could ask this on the Official Forums.
