returning vet!

Post by Theotus » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:46 pm

Hey guys, Sorry for this post, hope its not 2 annoying to answer some simple newbie questions for me.

Basically in game my name is Theotus, and i have been around since 2002, however i quit playing seriously just after shadowlands came out.

Recently i returned to AO (mainly i have to admin cause i missread means friday update and thoguht i was going ot be deleted). ;-) I have never had a 220 Char, Theo is my first Char born early 2002 and is currently lvl 213.

I have to say i am enjoying the game since i have re activated i am having lots of fun.

Really though there are lots of knoladge holes i have, things that i should know that i just don't and was wondering if you guys could help.

Id also like to say thanks for the excellent guides on the site, they have already helped a great deal; id also like to say that hte AOU is excellent (simple 3 version) i really really like it.

Funcoms shadowlands gui always made me want to spew. ;)

So questions ;)

1. Money making, when i last played the best way to make cash (aside from a lucky drop), was to farm ingots from hecks and sell to shops, you could make decent cash doing this. whats the best way now? (i am not exactly poor but by todays standards i suspect i am fairly poor). ;)

2. Raid bots / community tools, I am in a fairly small organisation; id like to tackel things like the beast (btw wtb HHAB :P lol) i have joined up with iraid, are there other good ways of organising this kinda of run? are there other bot networks (maybe something more freindly than a points based raid runner)? same for PvP and role play really, id like to get back in to some RP i was a big fan in AO's early days.

3. token boards, i assume that i cant get tokens from missioning anymore? (as i am over 200) and i dont yet have a 1k tokenboard :( lol. is it just the farming guns quests now for me? i also understand there are new boards i know about the one from hollow island, are there easyer and better options? (again i am in a small org - not sure about our ability to do raids anymore).

4. PvP - places like MMD, and other suppression gas zones, are they largely un populated now in faviour of the battle station ? i much prefer open world pvp , and i am guessing attacking a tower is about the best way to get it?

5. Alien points, i have the AI exansion but am only AI5, id love a group that is getting AI xp, again my guild might not be best place to do this i am not sure. are there organised ways to achive this? i hear the LE missions dont give much xp and are not really done anyhow thesedays? is this another Iraid thing really? any tips on getting AI xp? (or indeedy anyone doing the same thing thats willing to let me in on gangs?)

If anyone fancys doing some RP, or helping a old hand get back in to AO, i am always happy for company when online, atm i am mainly spamming inf missions for reseearch (as its new to me) and them last few levels so i will finally have a 220! :)

Thanks for listening guys and gals , for what its worth i am enjoying my time back on RK.

Welcome back and I am glad you found AOU! :)
1. Money making, when i last played the best way to make cash (aside from a lucky drop), was to farm ingots from hecks and sell to shops, you could make decent cash doing this. whats the best way now? (i am not exactly poor but by todays standards i suspect i am fairly poor). ;)
To make credits in AO, and to be able to make a good amount you have to find whatever it is that makes credits that you can stick at.

Its pointless for anyone to come along and say.. farm X or go and do Y because 1. You might not be able to do that on your own.. or 2. The idea of it might make you puke. There are stacks of ways you can make credits, some have a greater credit reward but take a longer time to get your hands on / farm. Other ways like blitzing / gathering tradeskill components and making things.. depends what options are open for you. You could also run SL statics in the hope of finding weird nanos, you could set up a service to help people get loot from somewhere that they cant get themselves but you know you can solo. Seriously a LOT of options, you just have to find the right one for you. Check the AO forums / gms / shopping channel etc and see where your credit making can come from. It isnt hard :)
AO lookup shows you are in an organisation with 573 members -- thats not small on my account and with that many members surely you can organise something together :) I havent raided on a community run points bot for the last forever so I can't really give any input on that one.

If you are interested in getting involved in RP, might be worth while getting involved in the CoT and perhaps also attending the monthly Greencloaks meeting.
3. token boards, i assume that i cant get tokens from missioning anymore? You can get tokens from missions at your level. Both RK and Alien Missions give tokens. RK you have to do it solo, AI you can be teamed.
4. PvP - places like MMD, and other suppression gas zones, are they largely un populated now in faviour of the battle station ? i much prefer open world pvp , and i am guessing attacking a tower is about the best way to get it?
MMD has had its gas changed. I am pretty sure if you step into Borealis you will see some duels. Im not the best person to give any advice whatsoever about pvp.
If your org has a city, use it. Otherwise, go and check out our Alien Invasion Knowledge section and the Booster Pack section. Arid Rift has good AXP opportunities.

Good luck!! :)

Yeah, ingots are gone... :(
Pearls looted in SL missions are the new ingots (but you gotta share lol (do NOT cut them lol)).
Token Guns if you can farm them sell well, but the quest has changed (it's easier to do now), and you'll want to pick up the third (previously usless) gun too...

Don't get me started on points bots, I hate them...
Basicaly, Pande is either a global instanced thing or if your Org can solo, that's the way to go...

APF can give you a board called a Paragon 2500 tokens needed, and Xan can upgrade it into either an offensive or defensive varient.

PvP, hate it, dunno lol.

Get yourself into the Xan playfield, the alium side (I forget what it's called) has good AIxp, and now you'll be glad to hear that creat buffs work on AIxp too!

Ukblizzard covered this one fairly well, but personally I used to go to the mercs camp and farm up some 201+ imps and clusters to sell. Though I kinda got fed up of it and nowadays I mostly just run by a few pocket boss dropping mobs that I know have some fairly decent symbs they drop and sell those instead.

There's of course plenty of others ways as well, but for my own personal preferences (don't like to camp stuff too much, maybe spend an hour at the most of killing some stuff) those are the best credit earning ways. But for all I know there might be better ways.

First of all, APF/Pande has been instanced these days (there's also an uninstanced version of Pande, but dunno how much people actually make use of it these days) so getting together a group of friends / org mates / etc on the weekend isn't exactly impossible. Does require a bit of experience to know what to do, but both APFs and Pandemonium is a fairly straight forward encounter. IRaid is an alternative too, though I was never a big fan of grinding raidbot points personally :)
Could maybe try to gather the org and perhaps, if your org is too small, start a coop with another org or something like that. A doc, a tank and some DD should be more than enough if everyone knows what they're doing to take on the Zodiacs and Beast :)

As for RP.. well can't say that I see too much of it these days. Though that might be because the RPers keep to themselves-

I actually am not certain if you can get tokens from doing RK missions once you are over level 200.. Never tried because the missions become so incredibly huge at that point and farming token guns or doing battlestations or pvp quest was a much more effective way of getting tokens.

Seeing as you are on RK1, you might want to have a glance at Borealis. I know that last week there was some big action there with a lot of flagged clams and omlettes :)

If you have gotten Legacy of the Xan, get a group of org mates or friends (or both, since I would hope that you consider people in your org friends :D ) and head into Arid Rift. The AXP in there is sick, the HP bars aren't big and the quest you do (which eventually gives you the Beta ear of your choice) gives a lot of AXP in the rewards as well (SK too, though the SK does depend on your level, so personally I would wait a few more levels to do them so that you get more research and regular SK in one go since you will eventually want to stab yourself in the eye from all the inf missioning needed to be 220 and LE70 :) )

Otherwise APFs are nice AXP if your group isn't too big. Alternatively you can do Lost Eden Mothership missions, the AXP doesn't compare to Arid Rift, but it is still very nice but I am unsure if many people bother doing LE missions past TL5 when you can just grind Arid Rift for muuch better AXP.

If all else fails: Alien raids in your city, still good AXP and also a shot at getting some nice alien armor parts :)

You get tokens from RK missions above 200. The only time you don't get them is if you team with someone below 200.

Guys ill make this quick as i am still at work :)

thanks very much for the input, as per usual the AO community has been greta on my return. Ill deffo take a look over all the suggestions, its great to be back ; i am really really enjoying it.

Managed to get hold of HHAB yesterday, so hoping to get my +10 ring this weekend, and i can then do some pande, and hopefully upgrade my gear (i am wearing full tier2 lvled to 220, and a HNT - using a joy of the race) as i understand this stuff just wont cut it much anymore! :)

thanks again guys and gals, its really really great to have such a good website to refer 2 now that lots of the older AO sites have become un maintained and such. (or dissapeared -(anarchy archum was it called?)

Thanks again, btw i know i mentioned this, but the AOU GUI is amazing, really good clean version of the gui i love it. (specially the minimal 3 version).
