Am I gimped?

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

Am I gimped?

Post by Moonbat » Sun Jan 07, 2007 8:06 pm

I am a lvl 11 Solitius NT. Ever since about level 9, I've found out I have less and less IP to spend, even on necessary skills. When I became level 11, I increased (maxed):

All abilities
Run Speed, Nano Init

When I went to increase my Nano and Aiding skills, I found that I only had enough IP to max about 4 out of the 6 nano abilities, which would mean I would have to skip over First Aid and Treatment. I ended up doing that.

My question now is, am I gimped? Should I even waste anymore time leveling my NT? And has anyone else had this problem?

It's just regular game mechanics, don't worry to much about it. With each point you gain in certain skill, next one costs more Ip to raise. Once you'll get new title (at lvl 15), you'll gain more IP per level. Basicly anything you do till level 30 can be corrected higher up (IP invested in odd skills is minute compared to what you gain at level 150 for example.)

Investing IP in basic abilities is never a bad thing (provided you don't build twink, but then you usually know exactly what you want). Each profession tends to have little or not important nanos that use 1 or 2 nanoskills tho. So I suggest you check professional nanos on auno or aomainframe, to see which nanoskill isn't really used for NTs.

And even if you mess it all up, most players discard their first chars (I assume this is your first) due to little mistakes they have made. It's part of learning the game.

more over, you ll soon hit the title cap (around level 12 or 13) so you wont be able to raise those caped skills before hiting lvl 15, you ll be able to catch up with those you neglegted...

so have no fear, you re not guimped (yet :) )

I'd say almost all characters are gimped in some way, shape or form...

A couple of good rule of thumbs (especialy at very low lvls) are:
1/ Don't spend IP unless you have to for what you have in mind...
2/ Light Green Skills are those skills that your proff usualy specialises in, Dark Blue Skills are pretty much the opposite...

Naw, you're not gimped at all -- you picked the best breed for an NT. Early on, I wouldn't waste IP on First Aid as healing as an NT is pretty much only stims and as you move along, the healing effect gets really minimal. Pretty worthless skill for an NT imo.

Biggest 2 skills for you to worry about are Matter Creation and Treatment. (so you can put on better implants) Secondary to those are Comp. Lit so you can use the grid, all base abilities and ofc. Body Dev. and runspeed for kiting, if that's your plan.

As you progress in levels and reach title caps, you'll end up with more IP than you need, though for awhile (especially between level 60 and 75) you'll be beside yourself with frustration at the tiny bit of IP you get, but once you hit 100 it'll be a lot smoother.

Not gimped, sometimes FC makes certain classes lack IP to spend in all important skills durring a certain lvl range.

:) Just lvl.
