problem

i have ran into an issue. i could not get into launcher and was prompted over and over that cd-image was screwed up and to reinstall. i removed AO and reinstalled but everytime it gets ready to fully install i get the prompt saying error that dimension url cant be found and the laucher wont open or shows no dimensions to choose from. help!!!

Do you perhaps a firewall that is blocking the AO launcher from accessing the information it needs to be able to log you onto the server?

nothing more than the IE one and have never had this problem before.

It sounds like you're trying to instal either from CD or from some old download. If that's a case, I suggest you grab newest version from FC:

And I'd recomend using large client even if you want to play as froob.

If you're already using this instalation...hm, could be issue with ports then, mabe even CPU...you need to elaborate on your problems. Info like how long ago you had AO instaled that worked, what changes you made to computer since then (hardware&software), ...

One of suggestions would also be to close all programs when you're installing game (IE, Messenger,etc...basicly everything that might affect either your connection or RAM use)

ok, did everything suggested by everyone, everything seemed to be going fine until the install came to the minion.wav files. i have to ignore them each, which is taking about 6 minutes each to acknowledge and prompt to do so, this is crazy. i downloaded the large client, took about 2.5 hours. started install at 2:30 pm it is now 7:15 pm and it still is not fully installed because of these damn wav files. sounds that i am not even gonna use...grrrr. if i abort or cancel i am afraid of what will happen. the dimension.url is at the end of install, i nix it all now and then i start from scratch? this is getting ridiculous

You may need to replace the version numbers below with your current version, but here is what the "dimensions.txt" file contain for the latest patch version. It should be located in the "cdimage\data\launcher" subfolder of your AO installation.

i have same problem.i think it has to do with their patch.it crashed my computer while updating,then it started having th problem.

have uninstalkled,redownloaded,etc and it will install and say cannot retireve info error,even with their client downloads.

so im guessing its soemthign on their end that they did if tier client is failing too

During a failed patching it sometimes is easier to roll back the version number in the mapid.txt file, in the AO root folder.
This makes the game think you are still at the previous client version and it starts to download again.... however, it's not a solve-all-patching-issues-way.
