MISHBUDDY WARNING

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

MISHBUDDY WARNING

Post by Virusalert » Thu Sep 17, 2009 8:51 am

Mish Buddy as downloaded is infected with a virus. The MB.DLL file is infected with the W32/Generic.Delphi.b virus.

Be warned.

I ran this software for over a year, scanning regularly with Norton's 360, and nothing. Just removed Norton's and installed McAfee and the virus alert popped up in the very first scan. Norton's 360 will not catch this virus.

The MB.DLL file was the ONLY file infected on my system btw. And somehow downloading a virus from another source that imbedded itself into an uninfected .dll file is extremely unlikely.

Try having someone run a scan from a clean system, or scanning using a clean disk. As I said, I used Symantec Norton's 360 for over a year scanning it and didn't get a virus hit. I deleted Norton's from my system, ran McAfee from a clean disc and got a hit.

But then, McAfee has always been a better virus protection system than Norton's even when McAfee was shareware. Only reason I was using Norton's to begin with was because it came installed on the computer.

Nortons a piece of c***...

However, I seem to remember something about this... Have you tried posting on their site?

1.07.5

This update is provide compatibility with certain antivirus programs. The Mishbuddy file mb.dll was being wrongly flagged by a few of the lastest antivirus signature engines (ie, Norton, BitDefender) as being a virus, which it is definately NOT. This patch will help them see that this is a game tool only and not a virus or spyware etc. and hopefully stop this misrecognition ongoing.

To install this update within MishBuddy just go to the Settings tab and then select the Update check button on the lower left of that page.

Nothing to worry about

imo Nortons, McAfee and 99.9% of freebie AVs have turned into the very thing they were trying to prevent. Norton was great pre version 2004, but then Symantec decided to "pimp my ride for poor people" it by removing its power and putting glossy gfx on it.

want a decent AV? get CA eTrust 8.1 corporate (formerly inoculateIT) or Kaspersky... and windows defender is about the best free anti-spyware going. McAfee is just as bad as Nortons

the best AV is knowlege and whichever finger you click with, I started PC gaming just before 2001, AO was my first mmo. I used AV's, norton was my first and i didnt like how it interfered with my games, always popping up durring a game and scanning durring a game, McAfee seem less intrusive but both sometimes couldnt get rid of some malware and viruses, most of the time it said it would contain them but my PC was still being bogged down as if it did nothing, i tried cc cleaner too but that rarely helped... So eventually i stopped using AV's and decided not to click on weird stuff and only download thing from legitimate sites, never open email unless I was expecting the correspondence and so on. read on for a more detailed outlook on this topic. I know im replying to an old post but oh well...

Back then I was inexperienced in using PC but was learning fast. I would get a popup and click on them but quickly learned was big mistakes. Weird email get clicked if the information peeked my interrest, big mistake. I started downloading various cracked programs using mostly sharaza or whatever it was called, big mistake however i did get some nice no virus cracked programs back then too, but ultimately big mistakes.

Then later when they started getting good, they find our email from other sources like WoW and send you emails asking you to click here to change your password your account is compromised, and even non game sites like your bank or credit card, they imate those causing you to click on their fake emails.

just stay away from clicking ANYTHING not expected, if your not sure dont click it but use a search engine to look the legitimate web address and use their support to find a phone number or contact email to ask if the email is legit. Most of the time you can hover and look at links in the emails and get clues as to if its legit or not, if they dont have the domain name from their legitimate site it may not be legit but thats not always a sure fire way to know.

Search engines used to show a lot of sites that were meant to infect you too, freeware sits and all that, best to just stay away from them.

You bumped a ten year old thread scream- titled MISHBUDDY WARNING?

What the heck? This is how internet rumors get started. Digging up old internet garbage isn't helpful. People navigating through the forum will be msled to believe that there's a current problem with the app. The irony being that the mishbuddy app was never compromised - it was a stupid false positive from a lousy AV software provider.

I hope a moderator unbumps and locks this thread.

A moderator does indeed.
I just read it and was like "why the heck does one reply to a 10 year old thread?".

For a moment I thought it's some bot posting, but it seems genuine. Just don't get why, but this thread's going to get closed. As you pointed out Higain, the actual topic has no real importance anymore.
Can't unbump it though without deleting the new messages.
