Below is all the info concerning LE caps and exp.

The caps are aproximate and tend to change slightly. Most have been rounded up. These caps are 5% of the total amount needed for an LE level. You cannot get more than that per mob killed. If you're not 220, the exp/sk that is not used for research will go towards your normal leveling exp/sk.

If you are 220 however, the exp that is not put into research will be wasted. If you find that you are capping on your personal research, make sure to set the slider bar further along towards the global. This will make sure that excess sk will go into global, instead of being wasted.
