Everyone on Rubi-Ka has seen some of these vehicles, but some are rarely seen because they're either too slow or unappealing to most. In any case, this guide will inform you about the vehicles that are available to you with Classic AO. Some of these vehicles are considered a status symbol, meaning that you've made good progress on your character.

Ground Vehicles

Ground vehicles are the cheapest option for most players. They come in two models, the Turbo Kodiak IX and The Mid. They're available at around QL25ish and go through all the way to over QL100+.

The lowest price starts at around 30,000 credits and you may pay over 350,000 for the more expensive ones (which I do not recommend you do). Even the most affordable of these vehicles could empty the wallet of a lower level player, so be aware that all kinds of vehicles are NoDrop (cannot be traded or sold back).

Cars will boost your Run Speed Skill, however they will also decrease your AC and while you're in one of them you cannot execute any nanoformulas. In other words you will be more vulnerable, but a good car can outrun most low level mobs. A player can still be attacked and killed while in a car, so be aware of this fact when you're driving outside of town. You can actually sit while in the car so you can use medical supplies.

How do I get in my ground vehicle?

To get in your ride, pick up the vehicle from wherever it is located (not bank of course) and place it in the HUD1 section of your weapons tab in the 'Wear' section of your menu. It will take about 10-15 seconds to get it equipped, then you appear on screen as the car itself. Don't expect any changes to your GUI or controls when driving any vehicle (this includes air and water vehicles).

Ground vehicles use the Vehicle Ground Skill to operate, usually at least 100+. The skill can be found in the Navigation section of your skills menu (at the bottom).

The Mid increases your concealment and has a transparent look which could confuse many players because you sort of look like a floating ghost. It does require the Perception Skill to use besides Ground Vehicle Skill.

Note: All kinds of vehicles can, on very rare occasions, be found in missions, however don't count on getting one this way.

There was at one point in the game before the Notum Wars expansion that a rare style of vehicle was being found. It was the Omni-Tek Gunship(only for omni players to use) which moved along the ground (unless you were an MP and had Quantum Wings activated!) it required Vehicle Ground Skill to use as well as Ranged Energy Skill because it was also used as a weapon. At that point in time it was the only vehicle that could allow you to attack. This vehicle can still be found in mission chests on rare occasions.

The slightly faster of the two models (comparing them at the same QL).

The Mid
The mid looks like one of those hovering drones you come across frequently in missions.

Air Vehicles

This type of vehicle is the Yalmaha which players usually call "Yalm", are the best way to travel around Rubi-Ka, and shows that you have made good progress with your character.

Let's start with the price. If you thought a ground vehicle was expensive, you are about to get a wake-up call. The cheapest Yalmaha you can find will cost a base price of around 5 million credits and can go up to 7-10 million for the higher QL versions. The base price is reduced by the Computer Literacy skill at a rate of about 40 points per 1% discount. For many players, this is a fortune, even with the discount. You are going to have to save every single credit you can to make this purchase due to its high price, however it is worth it.

You know that you've found a low QL yalm (the cheapest one you can buy) when the Air Vehicle Skill requirement is 81-90. If your trade window is in List Mode, you can see the QL of the Yalm (the lowest QL is 30).

Until you get the Yalm do not invest any IP in the Vehicle Air skill. Yalms increase your Run Speed, however they will also decrease your AC and while you're in one of them you cannot execute any nanoformulas. In other words you will still be vulnerable, but unlike the ground vehicles there is something a Yalm can do that they cannot. You can fly up high in your Yalm and avoid any mob on the ground, allowing you safe travel to any place on Rubi-Ka. This is the reason for their popularity. You cannot sit while in a Yalm but you can still use medical supplies that don't require you to be sitting to be used.

How do I get in my air vehicle?

You equip a Yalm the same way you do a ground vehicle. Pick up the vehicle from wherever it is located (not bank of course) and place it in the HUD1 section of your weapons tab in the 'Wear' section of your menu. It will take about 20-30 seconds to get it equipped, then you appear on screen as the Yalm itself.

While in your Yalm hold down the right mouse button, moving the mouse moves the nose of your plane. Point it up and run forward and you go up in altitude, into the clouds!

Well...not really into the clouds, at least not anymore. Back in the early years of Anarchy Online there was no limit as to how high you could fly, which means you had the ability to fly so far high that you could go above the clouds and even see stars in space!

Also back in that time you could enter a vehicle inside buildings and missions (you can't do that anymore of course, they fixed that).

The first time you fly in your yalm, it will be an awesome and very gratifying experience, this I can pretty much guarantee to anyone who gets his first Yalm. Besides your mouse you can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard to maneuver.

It has been a debate among players for a long time, at which speed Yalms truly go based on their QL and the Run Speed of the player combined. From personal experience I find that all Yalms move almost at the same speed (yes, low and high QL ones) and that the factor that makes them faster is not their stats but a player's own speed. As a level 215+ I have a low QL Yalm and I can outrun a low level with the same exact vehicle because my character's Run Speed is much higher.

Here is what every new player is drooling to own.

Water Vehicles

You will see few of these around. A water vehicle will increase your Swimming Skill in the same way ground and air vehicles increase the Run Speed Skill. It will also decrease your AC and while you're in one of them you cannot execute any nanoformulas either. In other words you will still be vulnerable, but unlike the ground and air vehicles there is something a Hydro can do that they cannot. You can go into the water and move at a good speed leaving behind any mob chasing you from the ground, actually it will probably go into the water swimming following but it will never catch you because your Swimming Skill will be much higher.

However because of the Yalmaha's ability to outrun and allow anyone to travel more safely, the water vehicles have been ignored by most players. Another reason for it's rarity is the fact that few want to spend the IP for Vehicle Water skill when they can use the IP for Vehicle Air for a Ualm.
