What happened to Cities?

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

What happened to Cities?

Post by Linkee » Mon Apr 22, 2013 4:08 am

Hey Everyone:
I am seriously contemplating returning to AO on a casual level. I played from 2003-2008ish on a serious level but completely dropped the game in July of 2008. Only until recently did I start to peruse the forums and game websites to see what has changed. I finally downloaded the client and have activated 4 of my froob accounts, but still debating on my 2 pay accounts. But I am still trying to piece together the past 5 years that I completely missed.

My main question being: What happened to AI and the cities? Do orgs still own cities?

Thanks!

Cities were removed from all outdoor zones in the 18.6 patch. All cities are now instanced.

Aside from being instanced and a few changes to buildings (no more market building as the new Global Market Interface is in place) the cities function in the same capacity they did before as far as raiding goes. You can reach the new instanced cities through ICC as long as your org set one up after the merge took place.

What about the buffs that we received from various city buildings? Are they now gone and does the new instanced city provide all of the same benefits as before? Thanks for the patch reference, I will review it and try to answer what other questions I may have.

Thanks!

City benefits remain largely unchanged except for the following changes:

Guard house will provide heal delta.
Landing pad will now provide run speed.
Swimming pool now only provides Body Development.
HQs no longer provide run speed.

And of course there's the Sauna that gives a 19% XP buff.

That's only if you go inside and get the "Relaxed State" buff isn't it? Even froobs can get that. The above building benefits are applied automatically to every expansions player in org.

I returned not long ago, and noticed there were no Org cities . . been meaning to ask what had happen to them, since I had always used a near by org city to whompa back.

so here I are, searched the forums here (since I returned as Froob) to see if any info about the missing org citues and here I be.

So, my question, and something that seems obvious . . no more whompas from Org cities ?

With the server merge and the 18.6 patch a year ago, all outdoor cities were removed. They are now instanced and accessed through whompas in ICC or via The Grid. This does mean that hitting the nearest city for a quick trip back to civilization is off of the table for now. There are items in the Item Shop that can be used to help navigate more quickly, but those do cost actual money.

Otherwise the cities function in the same manner they did before, save for a few changes to building types and plot sizes.
