There is now also a screenshot on the main AO page that is taken from the Alpha server running the new engine and there is a char in there not entirely naked - they are gradually processing all the old textures thru the new engine.

I do hope they force a more restrictive and balanced view distance on this new engine. All this LOD (Level of detail) stuff that should make the game run faster, has a reverse effect.

Simply limiting all that glitter and glow, could save us all a lot lag.

I am thrilled that they have chosen to go this route. Being a fan of Morrowind and Oblivion, it is a well desired attribute. (The realism of lighting is what holds my attention the most.)

Now, if they would only offer a pre-login selector, that forces you to play on the servers that run faster for you first, with one as a backup.

Wouldn't hurt to have an, "Out of game", server also. (Just a simple set of rooms, connected to a string of islands. Giving us access to our items and a "Sand-box" play area, to test our skills. Using unbeatable creatures that show us what types improvements we are getting, as we shop the user-stores.)

Throw on a fire-suit, and test it on a hell-demon, with buffs. Show the damage and damage/per min. Swap armor and weapons, and see if you truly are better equipped now, or worse. (Infinite health and stims/meds, since this would only be a testing ground.)

Same for you, show your resistance to attack from hand-2-hand, sword, energy, bullets, arrows, fire, heat, radiation, poison... (Would be a neat way to get better matched recruits for teams too.)

Rotate one person from one testing area. Where there might be 20 people chilling, to the least populated room, keep doing that to maintain server balance, as users log-in and out, or move to new shop areas.

Sorry, just getting a little over-excited here... (Zips mouth shut!)
