hi, I just want to know how pets work, because I want a pet too! :p
all I know at the present stage is that only Meta-Physicists, Engineers and Bureaucrats can have them
so iwas thinking of making myself a Meta-Physicist, but how do I catch pets? Can I catch myself an Azzy? that would rule, dude running into a place, summoning an Azzy lol!

MP's don't catch pets, they summon them. You can have up to 3. A fighting pet, a healing pet and a calming pet (it can calm a mob).
The healing pet will never fumble it's healing, while the fighting and calming pet may fail in their attacks/calms attempts due to a mob's defensive skills. If you have lvl 100 pets and you put them against a lvl 200 mob don't expect them to last long (or for it to be calmed).
MP's are pretty good not only because they have pets that greatly help a team with the additional healing and fighting assistance but also because they have a nano line which allows them to seriously enhance nano skills.
Check the MP's lines of available nanos
here. Check under "Nano Skill Buff Line" and you willl be pleasantly surprised.
Because of those nanos MP's are able to cast higher nanos that normal and able to summon fairly strong pets (and if you can get a wrangle or have a trader in your team, even better).
MP's are pretty fun, I have a lvl 60 MP twink I play once in a while every few weeks in totw....and he can solo Guardian of Tomorrow and everything in there alone except Aztur.
Check the official AO forum and read their MP forum
here, it has a lot of useful information.
I hope this helped.

Crats and Engies create their own pets, you won't need any parts just the nanos to create the shells to activate your bot.
Crats are wanted in teams because of their nanoline which raises the amount of xp a team gets. Also (if you have SL) because they have a nano that allows you to empty your xp pool a LOT faster.
At high levels a crat is very good, he has his pet, and can also charm 2 mobs to be temporary pets (long time and short time). That means you can have 3 things on your side on a fight.
Engies on the other hand are less powerful, but they are the best profession for tradeskills. And engie's bot usually is stronger than a crat's, because that is ALL an engie has while the crat can have charmed pets.
Engies are able to trimmer their bots (and also crat bots) to change the default settings of a bot. You can change it to be more aggresive or raise it's defense, however there is always a price...if you raise it's aggressiveness it's defenses will be lower, and viceversa.
Hope this gives you a better idea about those 2 professions.

Not easy to solo in low and mid levels, but at high levels you can solo quite well with 3 pets.
The good thing is that teams LOVE crats, so it won't be too hard to do missions with groups and make a lot of friends in the process.

The main thing about Engi pets is that they don't die of natural causes & despawn after a certain time, once you have cast them then they will be with you till you 1.dismiss them, 2.something kills them or 3.you log out...
Which means, you get a wrangle & as much nanoskill buffs as possible & cast your pet, then when the wrangle drops & the pet isn't OE, you can still control it.
With SL & AI, an Engi should be able to get the lvl200 Slayerdroid Guardian on at about lvl95-105 with relative ease...
