Finding Locations on the Map

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

Finding Locations on the Map

Post by Teqquin » Fri Aug 10, 2012 11:20 pm

I have asked in game about how to find locations on the Planet Map. I have yet to get someone to answer. So I have looked on forums and done searches, but no help. It must be self evident but I don't see it. Lets say a location in Central Artery Valley is 1700 x 2000. How do I read it on the map? I don't see a grid system. Thanks.

If you click the "I" in the left corner of your mini map, you can select the option to input the coordinates.

The global map is difficult to use for locating things -- that's what the playfield map is for. If you use AoRK, if you look carefully, it does have grid lines, but they are like every 1,000 or 500.

However, here's what I do to find stuff:

Zone into (in your example) Clondyke.

press shift-F9 to get your current location.

One line will give something that looks like:

Code: Select all

- 480.4, 485.9, 51.4 (480.4 485.9 y 51.4 670)
That last number is the current playfield ID. You can now set a waypoint for your desired location:

/waypoint 1700 2000 670

Now you get a "M" marker on your global map and a yellow dot on your compass.

I should point out that the last of those 3 number sets is elevation, and for us, isn't needed.

Yeah, I guess I should make it more clear:

- 480.4, 485.9, 51.4 (480.4 485.9 y 51.4 670)

That red number up above there goes...

/waypoint 1700 2000 670

where the red number is right up there.
