Crit question

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

Crit question

Post by bikernoj » Sat Feb 20, 2010 5:54 am

I know the whole damage formula for normal crits, but tonight my lvl 87 agent (untwinked, BTW) hit a mob for 10200 points of damage. While it was VERY cool, I've been trying to figure out how the game rolled that high of a crit. Please tell me what I'm missing:

Weapon: Yatamutchy; damage 1-375 (402)
Rifle skill: 647
AS skill: 502
Running nanos: add 26 damage

An orgmate thought the multiplier added one for every 80pts in a skill (coulda sworn I saw that somewhere, but can't find now), which would make 502 AS = 6.28x(crit), right? So at BEST, my AS critical would be:

(375+402) x 6.28 = 4876 damage BEFORE AC is considered.

So how could I possibly have gotten a 10,2k hit? I've also had an 8.3k and a handful of 5k+ crits as well, so I must be missing something... Is the multiplier different than I'm assuming?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you! I'm just very curious to understand how this happened. :)

Taken from the [url=http://forums.anarchyonline.com/showthr ... 99859Agent Profession Acadamy[/url], the important part is bold:
How is Aimed Shot damage calculated?

Aimed Shot is based on a normal maximum hit multiplied by a multiplier. The multipliers are decided by your AS skill, the higher your skill is, the higher multipliers you gain access to. Higher AS skill also increases the chance of hitting a higher multiplier instead of a lower. Aimed Shot ignores AC, and can crit. When an Aimed Shot crits, it multiplies your crit damage instead of normal maximum hit.

Let's say your weapon hits from 200 minimum damage to 1800 maximum damage, with 3000 critical hits. (Note: This is not the stat in your weapon description, this is the actual damage the weapon hits for). At 95 AS skill you can crit an AS, and for each 95 skill points after that, a new multiplier is available. Note that the number 95 is not 100% confirmed. Lets say you have 665 AS skill, which means you should have a max multiplier of 7. If you hit a 1x multiplier on a non-crit AS, you will hit for 1800 damage. Now, let's say you hit a 7x multiplier on a crit AS, your damage will be 7*3000 = 21000. AS is however capped at 13000 damage, meaning you will never hit for more than 13000.

For PvP: Absorption shields and reflection shields are calculated at the end, so if your target has 500 absorption you will only hit for 12500.
When I got it right your aimed shot skills increases your chance to get a roll in a higher "group" of critical multiplier rather than a fixed multiplier.

Disclaimer: Since I don't play an agent I can't confirm though... and might be wrong at the statement!

Regards
Nio

Thanks for finding that; i guess my search string wasnt good enough!

Hmm, so if I understand this:

Weapon - 1-375 (402)
Hits would be: ((Min to Max) + Crit Bonus) x (1+ (AR/400))+Dmg Bonus

Crits in this range would be (403 to 777) x (1+(647/400)+22)x AS Multiplier

So max AS crit would be ((777 x 2.6) + 22) x (502/95)+22 = 2042 x 5.3 = 10822 (assuming multiplier isn't rounded).

OK, now THAT makes more sense! Thank you for helping clear this up for me! :)
