Dimensions vs servers

I wanted to try out this game with a friend.
We logged on Rk2, made chars, took ride to IIC around the same time... so i'm climbing up from the crashed shuttle, looking around and can't find her, though we were exactly at the same location, just next to nurse Wyatt. In-game messages worked well between us, though there were different players bashing the beach leets around...
It looked just like we played on different servers, though we surely chose the same dimension.
How does it actually work? Is it only for noob island and we can actually meet in game on the mainland or are we separated for good?

Ok, this is your first example of an 'instanced playfield'.

The deal is, if there are 200 characters on RKs n00b island all togeather it would be laggy as hell & there would be queues for each mob that spawned...

So...

What the game does is when it gets say 16 people on the island it stops anyone else spawning there & creates a copy of the island & starts spawning people in the new one...
It does this every 'say' 16 people, so there are many 'instances' of the island.

Each one of these is called a GroupSelector, you can find out which 'GS' you are in by hitting Shift+F9 & looking for the words GroupSelector=## in the text that pops up...

There are many 'instanced' areas on Rubi-Ka, mostly in buildings & missions & stuff...

On this island, the only area that isn't 'instanced' is the teleport room at the far side of the ruined shuttle port.
You need to both go to the teleport room then team up & when you leave you will both zone into the same GS as each other...

Hope this helped, have fun :D

BTW there are ways to increase chances of landing in same GroupSelector (GS), maybe most dependable being teamed.

It can be, but it usually isn't since it doesn't accumulate enough simultaneous active players to trigger more instances.

There is another way to team with other players: have one flag himself /lft , then have the other invite him through the "Team -> Find" menu buttons in the lower right.

That is a valid point, but if you are in different GS's the teaming experience isn't going to be particularly fruitful :)

I can't say I've ever seen more than one instance of the teleport room, but I have seen the teleport room so heaving with ppl that you can't see the teleporters lol

Well, then you all go to your final desination, or if you're already there, the stragglers zone out and back in.
