Community - AOU Update July 2009

I'll just jump straight in and get on with it this month.. if anyone has missed what we have been doing, then where have you been?!!

AOU MOD
Woweeee! Scene certainly surpassed my expectations with this last release and I am extremely happily using one of the Slimline versions as my regular GUI! If you have no idea what I am talking about I best give you a bit of a summary...

The latest version of the AOU MOD utilizes the new multi-GUI-choice feature that was implemented into the 18.1 patch, which also means that the standard default GUI folder does not get altered at all. This basically means that Scene was able to include variations of the AOU GUI Mod and put them all into one package. To use it, you can access the menu in game, select which GUI you want to use.. and then as soon as you restart the game that the GUI you have chosen will take effect. How simple is that compared to having to mess about with your settings!

The GUI enables you to have a smaller raid window, gives you options to switch off any part of the GUI found in the Settings window, under "Control Centre", has menu buttons for voice packs supported by the GUI and also a custom map menu allowing you to switch to any custom map you have downloaded and that are part of this menu.

We now have quite a few screenshots in our gallery, which you can access here: http://www.ao-univer......te=gallery&id=54

Clicksaver
My fantastic husband Uragon, avid user of Clicksaver, was pretty quick off the mark for fixing the issue caused with the update to the 18.1 patch. I have to give him a lot of credit because he really did sit at it until it was working and he had responded to the feedback in the AO Forums and over here at AOU.

The team are still in discussions about the future of Clicksaver with AO Universe and talking about whether we have the time to dedicate to the project. Ariensky is already working on an update to the guide in our knowledge base and Uragon has a few ideas he could envisage working on... but we will have to see what the future holds!

Knowledge Base
As always, work in this area never stops. We are continually adding new guides and going over old guides. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us over this last month with some issues that have been spotted.

We have a vast list of new guides we want to work on and an even bigger list of guides we would like to do more work on. At least it keeps Niodemus and Quilluck out of trouble!

Articles / Rubi Ka Times / RP Driven things
Windguaerd has been busy with his Rimor based “Sworn to Secrecy” storyline and also the “Words of Wisdom” editions. Rubi-Ka Times has had a lot of Atlantean driven articles published but we seem a little lacking in Rimor driven articles. We welcome people to submit articles from any faction on any server!

Many of the AOU team attended Anarchy Onlines 8th Birthday Celebration in Reets, we would again very much like to thank ARK and GSP for throwing such a fun party and also the FC team for keeping AO alive.

Community - AOU MOD v.1.1.3

With a huge amount of work and a lot of testing, we are really excited today to be able to release version 1.1.3 of the AOU Mod!

Change log for 1.1.3
- Includes the AOU Slimline version of the MOD

- Also includes 3 extra variations of the Slimline and 1 alternative version of the default AOU MOD. These can be selected from within the AOU menu button under GUI Settings.
NOTE: you will have to restart the game each time you change GUI options so that the settings can take effect.

- Smaller player raid hp/nano bars to free up more visual space.

- Smaller raid window layed out in a 3x2 format as opposed to the old 2x3 format.
NOTE: Characters will experience the raid window size being larger than the raid listings. You MUST read the instructions for this new version BEFORE trying to install.

- Change of Clicksaver link within AriensGUI panel within the AOU Menu.

Please excuse the caps, but...
IT IS VITAL YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLATION!!!

RKT News - Will protesting ever be enough?

Will protesting ever be enough? by Caitriin Court
30th June 29483
Atlantean - Hunting sparks emotions. It is frequently regarded as a recreational activity. The attitude of the community towards much of the wildlife on Rubi-Ka changes over the years but at the front of the debate right now is the leet.
Onack has now uploaded a new version of the xml for AoSL to support tracking in instanced Pandemonium. There is NOT a new version of the map to download, simply a new xml file. Just download and replace the one in the planetmap/aosl/ folder.
You can download from the first post in this thread here : http://forums.anarch......wthread.php?t=488658
Community - Words of Wisdom Specials are OUT!

Ok, so last Sunday I was supposed to release the first Words of Wisdom Special, but RL got in the way. So today I will release both Specials. This marks the end of the Rimor based comic strip, the whole process was fun for me and hopefully Master Hung will find some time to once again interact with the Rimor RP community with his wacky antics. Check out the Master Hung's Words of Wisdom Specials at our Gallery: http://www.ao-universe.com/main.php?site=gallery&id=58
Social/Roleplaying - Colonisation Day Celebrations!

In true Rubi-Kan style, Colonisation Day could obviously not have been celebrated in any other way than how it has been.

With the community dressed in their most favoured halloween costume, lingerie and mingling with random wildlife packed onto the Glass Dance Floor in Reets!!

The party!

The Advisors of Rubi-Ka were founded towards the end of that first year following Colonisation Day. From that point forwards they have travelled Rubi-Ka to assist as many Rubi-Kans as they can. The Advisors maintain their presence and ideals upon Rubi-Ka, preserving life and aiding all that are blessed with it.... as well as throwing some really pretty fantastic parties and events!

Gridstream Productions is a non-profit organization based entirely on the planet of Rubi-Ka. GSP breath music into Rubi-Kans ears and are never far away from any party being held.

Once again for this years celebrations, Advisors of Rubi-Ka together with Gridstream Productions, have organised and thrown a party to be remembered with Reets heaving with Rubi-Kan partygoers. Clan, Omni and Neutrals all dancing together with high spirits, chatter and festivities.

Heading into Reets Retreat, new arrivals to the nightclub were met by a huge Mr. Squeaky, ready and waiting to take your coat.

Leave your coats here.

As I wasn't wearing a coat, I headed straight through to the Glass Dance Floor. The amount of people I was then faced with was immense.. even more than I had seen in Borealis earlier in the day being flung up into the air by Means and the "I Win" button.

While we were there, I also managed to catch up with Nushen, DJ of Gridstream Productions and the one responsible for what we were all hearing while I was at Reets!

Nushen, Gridstream Productions

Quote:

[Nushen]: I've been around for five years in Anarchy Online, and involved with GridStream Productions for most of that, and this celebration so far is a tribute to the years before. ARK is here in full strength putting forth a great effort as always. I'd say year 9 is gonna be another great one, if this celebration is any indicator.

I also bumped into A.R.K. Community Relations Director, Yarkona. She did run away from me at first when I asked to take her picture, although I am sure it was not intentional!!

Director Yarkona, ARK Community Relations.

Quote:

[Yarkona]: I'd like to give a big thank you to all the fansites, such as Gridstream and AO Universe, and others. Fansites, and ultimately their members make AO fun and enjoyable for both new and old players alike. We are having a lot of fun partying with Gridstream today! Earlier we ran a short storyline trivia game with some multiple choice questions, they were answered rather quickly and those that did not know the answers learned something new.

In addition to the party, I also would like to add that everyone that was in attendance from the AO Universe team have welcomed how "famous" we have been told we are. Quite honestly, we are all just doing something we enjoy and are really looking forward to continue to provide resources to help all Rubi-Kans in their travels throughout Rubi-Ka, Shadowlands and the Outzones.

Community - Clicksaver 2.3.3

Further to the 18.1 patch this last week, Clicksaver unfortunately broke. Uragon has made some changes so that it can read the new database and made it compile and run in Visual Studio 2008.

We have uploaded 2 versions for download. One version is the full package of program, source code, changes etc. The other is purely the program -- so you can decide which you would like to download and use.

You can download them here:

http://www.ao-univer......oad&action=tools

Please do remember that Clicksaver is a third party tool. Funcom and ARK will not provide any support whatsoever with this program. You will run it at your own risk.

As Uragon has made this update, if you do have any issues, please use the AO Universe forum to discuss these and we will help you as quickly and as best as we can.

We are discussing within the team whether this is a project we would like to take time to develop further for the community and would appreciate any feedback regarding this.

Community - Gallery Update (Slimline GUI too!)

Well, the traditional AO 8th Year Party in Atlantean went well, it was fun to be there even though I made it only to the end (was still very crowded). If you missed the fun on RK1, then check out the screenies at our Gallery here: http://www.ao-univer......te=gallery&id=64

For those who have been asking about the new AOU GUI Slimline version, I've added 5 screenies for a sneak peek at the current work the team is doing. Check it out here: http://www.ao-univer......te=gallery&id=63

And for fun:

Floading Unredeemed? - http://www.ao-universe.com/gallery.php?id=1195
On Top of a SL Mission - http://www.ao-universe.com/gallery.php?id=1196

In other somewhat related news, I will be asking FC for concept art images of the following booster packs/expansions: Notum Wars, Shadowlands, Legacy of the Xan and Premium Content (Paid Points stuff). I think players need to see how the detailed the dev team is regarding concept of new content.

Have a great weekend everyone!
