Omni-Pol Citizen Files to go Public?

Spies trying to infiltrate an Atlantean department of Omni-Pol causes its command team to give consideration to opening up confidential files.

It has been circulated recently that commanding officers in Omni-Pol are in talks to increase public access to their currently internal database of Rubi-Kan citizens. It has been suggested in particular, that this move is being considered in an attempt to provide more transparency on their day to day workings as well as to quash any mere curiosities as to whether a file is there or not.

Reports from Omni-Com have suggested that attempted access to the Omni-Pol databases search engine has really increased significantly over the last 6 months. It is thought that the database contains files on those who have been involved in illegal activity as well as quite innocent citizens. Why Omni-Pol feel the need to catalogue innocent members of the community has drawn speculation and criticism from some human rights groups.

Leon Knight, a resident in the Trade District thinks that the database, once available to the public will give those who access it a false sense of security.

Quote:
Can you really see Omni-Pol just handing out all their data on a silver platter for any Fred, Smug or Harry to get their greasy mitts on? I think not. This information is likely to just have the already publicly accessible information in it.. not details on arrests or convictions. It isn't likely to tell you that your neighbour is a stim dealer now is it. All this information will do is be a source for trying to check up on people, and when you get negative hits back from it.. well, you will think your high-rise is safe, wont you. What a waste of time and resources.. it would be better to just keep it internal.

Supporters of the move to open up the data have suggested that giving easy access to the department records has the potential to become a very popular move. The local communities and neighbourhood watch groups will be able to increase their efforts and help the law enforcement agencies to stamp out crime.

We were unable to gain a comment from Omni-Pol's Director Ciafardoni at this time, but be sure to keep reading Rubi Ka Times for any updates on this matter!
