my idea and what not...

AO is the main topic, but you can also talk about things like the latest console game you've played, web comics, movies, music, etc. as they pertain to your AO experience.

my idea and what not...

Post by 1upnate » Sun Aug 28, 2011 10:00 am

so as alot of you probably know, myshop as gone down and is no longer usable. in adition to that, i have not seen Silentmeta online in a long while. i hope nothing bad happened to him, I liked that guy :/ so that leaves froobs with quite little means to put their wares on the market and consume the goods they need (buy and sell stuff).

seeing as paid players have the official forums, and can use the gms and all that fancy crap, here is my idea to help out the froobs a little.

make a website that is ENTIRELY dedicated to the commerce of Rubi-ka (both rk1 and rk2). it could be in a forum format, or it could take another design entirely who knows.
so heres what i want to know:

do you think its a good idea?
do you think people would use it?
do you think given enough publicity, it would be come functional and useful?
if so, would anyone be willing to work with me on it?
am i completely out of my mind?
do you have any better ideas?

i'm seriously thought long and hard about it. i know alot of people who love the game to death but paying for it just isn't an option currently for them. i want something that will take a little pain and weight off the back of the froob population and just maybe will provide a usefull service to the citizens of rubi-ka.

let me know what you guys think.
Legends of Rubi-ka is now recruiting! rk2!

Yes
do you think people would use it?
Around 20 active users  including me. Not all people like the shop activity, not all who do keep it active, and ofc many of them are members, whom might not use this system :(

Yes, myshop was.
if so, would anyone be willing to work with me on it?
willing != cappable  Getting a tested and working platform and just turn it on, or modify it, or make a completely new one. How much time do you have? :D
am i completely out of my mind?
Well, Just don't send thongs or enlarge nanos to people's inboxes and we are fine
do you have any better ideas?
Haha, Make a neutnet cast for a few days announcing your intention to introduce a new platform, and direct people to here so they support/tell you off

Couldn't resist supporting you in this thread too :)

I think it's a good idea, but note that with MrShop and MyShop, the in-game access was the primary interface, and the website was only secondary. Most people will want to use the service from in game so you'll have to host a bot with features for this. Silentmeta has released the ORGBANK_MODULE that he based MyShop on, so you could start from there. Or maybe collaborate with him.

To help drive people to your site, you may want to integrate shopping channel support and dnet/neutnet support. There are several sites out there that offer this, but imo, none of them hit the mark on in terms of offering all the features that players are asking for. Again, you also want in-game access to those features.

If you can create this service and get a fair amount of people using it, I will add Budabot support for it.

One thing you could add is 'shopping alerts'. I got this idea from Wolfbiter's bot on RK 1. Each player can add search terms for things they want to buy, and then when something is added to a shop that matches it, or when something is posted on a shopping channel that matches it, you send that player a tell.

Hmm... despite the comment(s) about Myshop, I thought I'd post
anyways...

Figure out what it is you actually want to provide, and I'll chip in
what small knowledge I can...

Has anyone considered contacting the chap who ran the last
website that Budabot used to connect to? Was it rubika.com or
something?

There might be an email address floating about...

He may still be in game. Talk to him nicely enough and he might
give you his code-base to play with. It would give you a start.

Myshop has the capabilty to store shop WTB/WTS info, built-in by
Tyrence, but not really implemented. It would not take much to
make it active. I've already done some work towards that myself,
though I was more interested in the 'spam filtering' side of Ty's
shop-bot code.

I've also made some progress towards a WTB list, but thats mostly
something I planned on putting in the next version of Myshop.

However... 'small steps' as they say... decide what you want before
you go any farther.

I've deliberately double-posted because I want to keep this a
separate idea from previous comments, though it has a relevance.

You may know that AOIA can export (as a .CSV file) the contents
of a paid players org shop...

We've proven the method of loading those .CSV files into Budbot,
and searching through them, in a soon to be released Buda module.

Make a shared DROPBOX folder out on the Internet. If a paid player
then exports his playershop to that folder, or to a Web-site connected
to a Budabot, it could then be searched or listed via a simple tell.

Voila... in-game online froob-friendly GMS.. Not complex for people to
set up. One sticking point might be, is the price included in the
.CSV but you'd have to ask Myste @ AOIA, or look in the file
yourself...

I've not been a paid player in years, so I don't know if it does.

Just a suggestion...
